How do I know if I have a challenging child or if it's just me?
Here is how we define a challenging child:
- adoption or attachment issues
- wants to be in charge
- control issues
- manipulative
- defiant
- lies
- steals
- ADHD diagnosis
- oppositional defiance
- childhood bipolar
- conduct disorder
- school IEP
- lower functioning
- coming home after out-of-home treatment
- etc.
So now what?
If this describes your child and you are feeling discouraged, at your wits end and like nothing is working with your child, there is likely a very good reason. You may not have been told that parenting a challenging child needs a different skill set. Traditional parenting doesn't typically work.
